How to Recover From Edibles

How to Recover From Edibles

Edibles are a fun way to enjoy cannabis. No matter whether you’re trying to get as high as possible, or just unwind from a stressful day – edibles are the definition of a stoner treat. Those who don’t like smoking often use edibles to stay medicated throughout the day. Edibles remain one of the most popular ways to consume cannabis. There’s no smell, no coughing, no horribly dry mouth afterward. It doesn’t get better much than that.

Unfortunately, there may be times when you consume too many edibles. When this happens try some of the useful tips below on how to recover from edibles.

Side Effects of Edibles

Taking edibles does have an effect on your body. After consuming edibles and the high fades, you're vulnerable to side effects like drowsiness, lethargy, and brain fog. These unpleasant side effects can make it difficult to function the next day. It’s smartest to plan to take edibles during the weekend, or whenever you can have an extra day to relax. Even when you are confident about how edibles usually affect you, sometimes they can surprise you.

Recovering From Edibles

There are a few things that can be done to lessen the effects of an edible hangover. We highly recommend taking a shower, cold or hot. Taking a shower allows you to mentally and physically start the day fresh. It’s also recommended to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Cannabis in any form is known to cause dehydration. Dehydration is one of the main causes of edible hangovers. After showering and hydrating, try having a snack. Your body needs fuel in order to fully recover from edibles.

How Long Edibles Stay in Your System

Cannabis affects everyone differently. The general time for THC from edibles to leave your body is different for blood, saliva, urine, and hair. For blood: 3-4 days. For saliva: 1-3 days. For urine: 3 days to a month. For hair: up to 3 months after edible consumption. Keep this in mind if you are subject to any drug testing. Choose a different way of consuming, or hold off for time being, if you have a drug test coming up to stay safe.

Get Some Fresh Air

Going outside for even 5 minutes can help with how to recover from a night filled with cannabis treats. Take a minute to go outside and take a few deep breaths. Even the worst edible hangover won’t be a match for some fresh air outside. Don’t forget to drink some water! You’ll be on your way to feeling like yourself in no time.

Work Out

We don’t recommend this one if you’re feeling nauseous or dizzy. However, working out has been shown to increase energy levels. After edibles, you might be feeling weighed down or completely fatigued. Taking a brisk 20 or 30-minute walk will help you “wake up” from any brain fog or lethargy you feel.

Know Your Dosage

The easiest way to prevent any unwanted side effects the next day is to control your dosage. Learn which dosage works best for you. To find out which dosage is the best experiment with edible dosages. Edible dosages come in milligrams (mg). Microdosed edibles are usually 5mg-10mg per piece. Start small and work your way up. Take one piece, wait 2-3 hours, and then feel free to take another one if there are no effects felt. Taking edibles soon? Check out whether or not weed has calories

Take It Slow

Don’t take the most amount of milligrams you can – this will more than likely lead to the infamous edible freak-out that many stoners have had. The infamous edible freakout is preventable when you remember to take it slow. It’s not a race. Everyone has a different tolerance. Once you find your sweet spot, you should be able to minimize side effects. Side effects from edibles normally come from taking more than needed. You can also make your own edibles with cannabis cookbooks. Every stoner should try making their own edibles at least once.

Rest Up

Taking edibles takes a toll on your body. This is why we recommended having an extra free day when deciding to take them. It’s essential to rest in order to recover from edibles. Resting gives your body a chance to chill out. Put on your favorite TV show and take a nap! As the THC leaves your body, you should start feeling better.
